A Father’s Day message
Today I went to church with my family to celebrate Father’s Day, the message was especially meaningful as I find each week message usually is to me. Today’s message was about being parent’s and how to be better Christian parents. It filled me up, it gave me so much assurance.
Addison, my one year old, was extremely excited and chatty too so her and I went to the foyer to not disturb the congregation and honestly, probably out of my own insecurity. We chatted and listened to the message but I heard the preacher say something that moved me to tears. He said that that he and his wife love seeing the little children, or something of that nature because grandchildren are so far away. I lost it and started crying. I highly doubt he intended for that to be the biggest and greatest take away but for me it was what I needed. I’m in the right place.
I was blessed with a closeness to my grandparents that I try very hard not to take for granted but as an adult, I know I have done just that. I’ve been selfish with my time which is ok because I’m a human with flaws and I know they forgive me.
This church is small, unadorned but warm and welcoming. I mean that literally and figuratively. It describes the congregation perfectly, warm and welcoming. The one thing missing was small children and my children don’t get to see their own grandparents as often as we would all like. How perfect and lucky are we, to fellowship in a church filled with loving grandparents. That can nurture my children in a way I can not, through the love of a grandparent.
So if you find yourself in the Dickinson or Belfield area with small children, I can offer a suggestion to visit our church that’s filled with plenty of loving, warm and welcoming grandparents without present children ️. What a gift!
Pastor Larry thank you and of course Lillian as well! ️
